Cylo

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cylo is the official mascot of the Lancaster Barnstormers, who play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He is a furry, red cow with blue eyes and a yellow snout, hair, ears, hands, and legs. Cylo wears a Barnstormers home jersey, white socks with navy blue and red stripes, and khaki sneakers with red and navy blue trim. He debuted on May 11, 2005 at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Since then Cylo has provided Barnstormers fans with entertainment during games and continues to make public appearances around the city of Lancaster and the surrounding county. He traces his origins, as do all sports team mascots, to the Phillie Phanatic. Coincidentally, the Phanatic continues his act only 70 miles to the east in Philadelphia. Cylo is a cow as a reference to the Barnstormers' name and to represent Lancaster County's agricultural heritage. Cylo's name is synonymous with the word 'silo' seen on many farms as well as a homage to Hall of Fame pitcher Cy Young.[1] He was designed by the Raymond Entertainment Group of Newark, Delaware, of whom also produce the primary costume of the Phillie Phanatic and of DownTown, the mascot of the nearby York Revolution. During the off-season, Cylo makes appearances as Cylo Claus during the holiday season.
