"Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see." – Arthur Schopenhauer
My hometown is Miami and I have lived in Florida my entire life. I study mainly on my own and have since I was a child. I am currently researching various topics in medicine, finite math, calculus, Japanese, and Greek mythology. I also do web design and know several programming languages. For leisure I like to play video games and have been reading Sherlock Holmes stories lately. I believe a person's education should not be limited to schooling, and in fact schooling only gets in the way of learning. I'd like to study several other languages, besides the ones I already know. I'd like to dip into Latin, Arabic, Mandarin and Cantonese. After all, we English natives know a lot of Latin already. But thanks to Wikibooks, I've been extending that knowledge far further. I also need to extend my knowledge of German and Spanish, and eventually master Japanese.
[edit] Health
I am currently diagnosed with Graves' disease, Crohn's disease, cholelithiasis, scoliosis, and syringomyelia. Rather than hiding the fact that I am ill, I am open about my situation and advocate for better patient treatment. I believe that illness is nothing to be ashamed of.
I regularly study the subject of Medicine in its broad sense. I began extending my knowledge of different diseases in pathology, and after discovering that pathology alone did not provide me with enough information to answer my questions, I have since begun study of neuroscience. I can't call it the beginning though, really, because I've been studying for over a year. I also read about anatomy and other basic medical subjects, of course. For anyone who's interested, the history of anatomy through Galen and Vesalius is fascinating. Don't forget Leonardo da Vinci, either: the ultimate polymath. Vesalius may have learned from him. It's interesting how Galen did the earliest cataract surgery and studies of human anatomy, without ever opening up a human body!
