[edit] Any examples?

I was just wondering if anybody had any examples of "cyberprep". I've never heard this term used before anywhere else but here. I was going to suggest maybe the beginning of Starship Troopers, but don't recall any examples of cybernetics in that. --BriskWiki 05:27, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I believe the term "cyberprep" was first used in GURPS Cyberpunk. --Loremaster 16:32, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Thank you! I think maybe this should be included in the article if you have any more information about it. I was thinking for a while that somebody just pulled this term out of thin air. I really should get ahold of that book. --BriskWiki 17:53, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
How about Ian Banks's The Culture? --maru 21:15, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I would say that the term "cyberprep" is a term that is evolving now, cybercouture is a fashion genre that is gaining ground and I would expect people to need a term that differentiates the high fashion scene from that of the scavanged cyberpunk scene.

(Fixed maru's link.) I am skeptical about the currency of this term too. It popped up here and there in the late 80s, most notably in connection with Judith Tarr, who I thought was the coiner, and Susan Shwartz--see [1]--but I haven't heard it since. I thought of it then as sort of a joke inversion of cyberpunk, not a real direction. It's not a current topic in SF as far as I know. rodii 02:47, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] merge to cyberpunk

I removed the merge tag to cyberpunk; there's no discussion of the merge on either page, and certainly no consensus. Since cyberpunk is a featured article, I'd be loath to merge in a minor topic like this without discussion. Additionally, if this article is correct, cyberprep is seen as its own offshoot of cyberpunk, not a part of it (I studied cyberpunk, and I've never heard the term, fwiw). The two articles are linked -- that seems good enough. -- phoebe 17:50, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

I propose merging this into the Cyberpunk derivatives article.Yobmod (talk) 12:39, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Agreed. Ottens (talk) 15:11, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
