Talk:Cybernetics (disambiguation)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Okay, my edit [1] was reverted so perhaps I'd better explain my intent. WP:WINAD says "Wikipedia is not in the business of saying how words, idioms, etc., should be used", and 'improperly' and 'erroneously' made my POV meter twitch. Using the word cybernetics to describe mechanical implants may be 'improper' according to the original definition, but that's how people use it. Wikipedia should describe, not prescribe. Unless anyone can think of a compelling reason to keep the current wording, I'm going to redo the edit. —164.55.254.106 16:59, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

the only argument I can make in favor of saying that "incorrectly" should remain on definitions other than the original is that Cybernetics is a science, and the misuse of its name leads to confusion about the facts. (Think of the incorrect bohr atom vs correct atomic orbitals) As its definition is critical to proper understanding of the subject, a strong argument can be made for pointing out that while the public is free to use the word however they see fit, the correct Scientific definition is the original.--Scorpion451 01:55, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
