The Cx4 chip (sometimes incorrectly called the C4 chip) is a math coprocessor used by Capcom in two Mega Man X series games for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Mega Man X2 (1994) and Mega Man X3 (1995). It is most well-known for its role in mapping and transforming wireframes, such as those seen in each game's final scenes.
It should be noted that by holding the 'B' button on the second controller upon system start-up in X2, a Cx4 self-test screen could be accessed. In both the PlayStation 2 and GameCube versions of Mega Man X Collection, the self-test screen is still accessible in Mega Man X2 (although differently accessed due to the remapped controller configuration), but was removed in Mega Man X3.
The Cx4 chip has been accurately emulated in several popular SNES emulators, such as ZSNES and Snes9x, allowing both games to be fully compatible with those emulators given that the user has their ROM images.
