[edit] Summary

Description

Night colour photograph of the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Antietam (CV-36) in 1953. In 1952 Antietam did become the first U.S. carrier with an angled deck, and photos like this should emphasize it usefulness. The carrier was operating out of Quonset Point, Rhode Island (USA), at that time. A red-painted Grumman F9F Cougar has just been launched. F9F Panthers and two Douglas F3D Skyknight are also visible on the deck.
