Survived till AD 400?? Is this a joke? I am looking for any reference for this date, and If I cant find one, and no one else can, i will change it to a more acceptable earlier date like 11,000 BP (http://www.amnh.org/science/biodiversity/extinction/Resources/Bestiary/Proboscidea.html). 76.205.70.19 08:54, 27 August 2007 (UTC)Matt Aufderheide

I have a reference for 400 AD:
The Illustrated Encylcopedia of Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Animals, consultant editor: Dr Douglas Palmer, Marshall Editions 1999
The passage is "[Cuvieronius] was hunted to extinction, and probably died out as recently as AD 400". It does sounds shockingly recent to me, so, as no evidence is given, I won't make the change. On the other hand, I guess a creature basically resembling a modern elephant could hypothetically hold out in South America for that long. Rwestera (talk) 21:46, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
