[edit] Birthyear

The obituary states that he was 80, and another that he died in December 1975 as stated but not the year in which he was born. If he had been born on December 2 (or later) 1894 and died on December 1 1975 he would have been equally 80, making the birthyear just slightly speculative. • Indeed so, I worried about this slightly too. I just checked in the Cambridge University Library catalogue where he is listed as 1895-1975 though. Not a very good source to reference...

Grove's Dictionary (available via Google Books) (1954 edition) gives his birthplace and date so: A. Bovey Tracey, Devonshire, 17 Sept. 1895. Schissel | Sound the Note! 19:00, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
