Cuthbert Powell

Cuthbert Powell (March 4, 1775 - May 8, 1849) was a U.S. Representative from Virginia, son of Leven Powell.

Born in Alexandria, Virginia, Powell completed preparatory studies. He studied law and after being admitted to the bar he practiced in Alexandria where he would eventually be elected mayor.

Cuthbert Powell moved to Loudon County where he engaged in agricultural pursuits. He held various local offices, served in the Senate of Virginia 1815-1819, and was a member of the State house of delegates in 1828 and 1829.

Powell was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841-March 3, 1843). He died at his Llangollen estate in Loudoun County near the town of Upperville, Virginia on May 8, 1849. He was interred there in the estate's private cemetery.
