[edit] Sunni view

"Sunnis do not believe that God has advised his followers to pray to curse others."

Is that accurate`? Does not the vers 3:87 say "(As for) these, their reward is that upon them is the curse of ... men, all together." ?

Is not that a clear encouragment to curse?

Dont you have these hadith (that shia regard as un-authentic):

(Nabi said:) That is so! Allah's (curse be on the Jews and the Christians, as they took the graves of their prophets as (places of worship),' intending to warn (the Muslims ) of what they had done."

ref

Does not that make it Sunnah to curse, in Sunni fiqh?

Are you sure:

"Sunnis do not believe that God has advised his followers to pray to curse others."

Is accurate?

There is no curse in İslam! Especially not in sunni sect. Only Allah can curse someone. İt is believed that cursing someone will bring bad fortune to cursing one, not to the cursed one. there is a saying in Turkey: "Kem söz sahibine aittir" meaning "Evil word returns to its owner" Lanetis not curse (although it is used as such in modern language) Lanet means to reject, to deny; because of that words modern use as a counterpart of "curse" causes a confusion of meaning. I can't think of any original quote right now but for example if the original text means "Down with sinners" it is wrongly translated in English as "curse the sinners" etc. Isatay 23:55, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Believer is Neither A Condemner Nor the One Who Curses

as per the Prophetic Hadeeth in Arabic: "ليس المؤمن طعانا و لا لعانا". It is only the right of God to curse His creation who exceeds in disobedience seeking & incurring His Wrath, and the right of God's Messengers on God's Behalf. As to the Final Messenger, his path was to supplicate for guidance as they were acting out of ignorance, except in few rare cases where they exceeded all the bounds, as he has said in Hadeeth: " I was sent as a glad-tiding giver ( to God's Paradise ) & neither a condemner nor the one who curses" & in Arabic: "انما بعثت مبشرا و لا طعانا و لا لعانا". God says in AlQoraan: 'Verily Alllah does not love the overtness by badness except one who is wronged' in Arabic; "ان الله لا يحب الجهر بالسوء الا من ظلم". No one has been cursed by God or His Messengers except in the very extreme cases of disobedience reaching to the level of persistent treachery. ILAKNA 14:00, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Only the Killing of A God's Messenger is Capital Blasphemy ( or 'Kofr Akbar' ) which takes one out of the circle of belief

while that of a believer even if he is from the Ahl Al-Bayt is Minor Blasphemy ( or 'Kofr Asghar' ) which does not take one out of the circle of belief though both heinous capital crimes, justifying death by requital ( or 'Qisas') & subject to God's condemnation, curse , wrath & punishment in Hell-Fire. So on the article page, "So the statement of Qadi Thanaullah Panipati, a 19th century Sunni Hanafi Islamic scholar wrote:..." is higly emotional, charged & incorrect as per the ruling of Islamic Law, because it was not a case of simple murder, it was a case of power struggle for leadership, where two opposing forces met in a battle-field although one was outnumbered & the other side was extremely cruel, not to have left any crime which they did not commit. Otherwise one would be falling in the same pit & going astray of the justice as the oposers did & Ahl AlBayt stood for. The Qadi has made some highly subjective statements unbefitting of a Believer including; "The Banu Umayya were initially kaafir, then some of them presented themselves as Muslim. Yazeed then became a kaafir." After the message of the Prophet Ismaeel, who was the last prophet to Makkans, dissipitaed out of their knowledge over passage of time & passing of generations, they became the 'People of the Interval' ( or 'Ahl Al-Fatrah' in Arabic 'أهل الفترة' (as the message of all the prophets of Bani Israel was local to Bani Israel & did not apply to them or to any one else, so no one be accounted for the message of those prophets only the applicable generations of Bani Israel & any one outside if believed it was gratis & will be rewarded like a supererogatory prayer, where there is no asking but only reward) so they were not disbelievers because God says in AlQoraan "We were not to punish (any one as a matter of justice) until we were to send a Messenger (ie Prophet)" & in Arabic: "و ما كنا معذبين حتى نبعث رسولا". So when the next & the last Messenger of God declared on the Mount Safa to Makkans the Message of Islam, whoever rejected it became 'kafir' then onwards untill all the Makkans embraced Islam on the Day of the Victory of Makkah by Muslims. Banu Umayya entered Islam, when Abu Sufyan embraced Islam on the advent of victory of Makkah. 'Then some of them presented themselves as Muslim', he is pre-judging them, while the judgment is for Alllah as in AlQoraan: "On you (O Mohammad) is the (duty of the) delivery of the God's Message to the people of the World) & on us (ie. on God) is the (duty of the) Accounting (of the Humanity on the Day of Judgment with the consequential reward-in-kind)" as in Arabic: "عليك البلاغ و علينا الحساب", while Muslims are required by God to build their dealings with others on what is the 'apparent' (or 'ظاهر') & they are not charged by God to seek out what is 'hidden' (or 'سرّ')in their hearts, which will be brought out in open only on the Day of Resurrection as in AlQoraan: "(The) Day the secrets will be out" as in Arabic: "يوم تبلى السرائر" & in the Prophetic Hadeeth: "Were you to open his heart (to know wether he in his heart had become a real Muslim)?" said the Prophet with extreme anger when Zaid Bin Haritha, the Prophet's beloved, informed him that Zaid in the duel in the battle-field had killed a person despite him reciting the Islamic Shahada { because Zaid thought that he was doing for the fear of his life & not out of a conviction of faith}, to clarify from the Prophet the rightness of his action (it means his action was wrong & he should have accepted that statement & spared that peron's life even if he was doing for any ulterior motives), & Zaid thereafter kept on atoning for rest of his life for that mistake. Muslims are required to do the 'righteous' deeds (ie. the 'ripened deeds' or 'الصلحات' as they are 'wayfarers in this life-of-test to collect good deeds' on the way to the Paradise as in AlQoraan: "Verily, those who have believed & did ripened (righteous) deeds were for them the (Paradise of the) Gardens of AlFirdous as an Abode"(Q:18:107)as in Arabic: "ان الذين أمنوا و أعملوا الصالحت كانت لهم جنت الفردوس نزلا" ILAKNA (talk) 18:30, 23 January 2008 (UTC)—Preceding unsigned comment added by ILAKNA (talkcontribs) 18:23, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
