CUNY Graduate School of Journalism

The City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism is a public graduate school of the City University of New York (CUNY) in New York City that confers a Master of Arts degree in journalism. The school opened in August 2006 with 57 students, and is located at 230 West 40th Street in the former building of the New York Herald Tribune. The dean of the school is Stephen B. Shepard.

The school hosts the NYCity News Service, which provides student-produced works of journalism at no cost to community newspapers and other media throughout New York City.

Broadcast journalist and author Tom Brokaw will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism's first Excellence in Journalism Awards gala to be held May 12, 2008.

The school's three-semester program includes media tracks in print, interactive and broadcast. It also offers subject concentrations in health/medicine reporting, business/economics reporting, arts/culture reporting and international reporting. Students participate in a paid summer internship the summer between their second and third semester.

The school was designed by Thomson Architects PC. Special attention was paid to converged media outlets as well as transparency of information. The project was considered a "Fast Track" project, alluding to the short period of time between project kickoff and project completion.
