[edit] Case Assignment.

Hello! can you take the following case? The Case thanks Æon Insanity Now!EA! 01:20, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Gary

Hi. I think he's really over-reacting. It started off with him blithering on about a book on several talk pages, which obviously I thought was pretty ridiculous - so I joking replied to one or two of his comments. He then complained because of an article or two he'd been working on, which I had thought should be deleted/altered. For the Frank Hogan one, I honestly had no idea that a position like he had could make him important. My fault for not checking, but in this country prosecution lawyers are not political appointments, so it's virtually impossible for them to become notable.

Problem is that Gary kept spamming talk pages with comments about me and crazie and used his own talk page as a place to mountain a campaign against us. Now personally I think that's rather low, and he should remove the comments. There isn't actually a dispute at the moment because several people identified the worth in the Frank Hogan article - he just seems either a very hysterical person or a very manipulative one that is pretending there is a current dispute (when there isn't one).

Not much more to say that that really. John Smith's 11:11, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

I've been quietly editing adding links and making stubs for nearly 2 years with very little trouble. But I ran into a particularly vindictive user over a dispute on the Mao unknown story pager and I've been afraid to use wikipedia for a while, since I fear he'll just jump on any edits I make as he already has. I did my to avoid going for outside help but now he has another guy helping him out. They tried to delete the Frank Hogan article I created without merit and now they're going after other articles I've wrote.

I began noticing between 2005-2006 the steady growth of Mao the Unknown story over wikipedia. While most historians acknowledge Mao's flaws that particular work has not been accepted by mainstream scholars and can best be described as pophistory with an extreme POV. I was disturbed when I saw how the Red Star Over China book had more devoted to the UK story's attacks on Edgar Snow than on the classic work itself. Hoping to promote a chnage I posted my objections on the talk page of Red Star and the talk page for unknown story. John Smith's and me had a debate about the merits of the source at the talk page. I then noticed that shortly after our dispute John Smith's removed several links from China-related articles and from the People's Volunteer Army article. Initally I was willing to accept this as a coincidence, but when I discovered comments on the Red star Over China page I realized that John Smith's had pursued theese articles vindictively. When I saw his nomination for deltion on Frank Hogan a NYC prosecutor he knew nothing about and far out of his range of expertise I was outraged. Thankfully users with more knowledge about NYC backed me up basically ending the dispute.

Johnsmith's casually refers to MAo the uk story as "a book" but look how active he's been in defending that book against not just me:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Mao:_The_Unknown_Story/Archive_1

However crazyeddie rekindled the dispute after I made anedit to PVA. Initally I assumed that crazyeddie was trying to help and was jsut upset by the way the dispute had dragged over into other pages. However his nomination to delete Frank Hogan was completeley unmerited as revealed by the results of the VFd. This dispute began in early October and I have done my best to solve this problem without requesting assitance, after the Frank Hogan debacle however I feel I have no other choice.

Johnsmith's bullying has made it very hard for me to contribute and I've made several important contributions to wikipedia including the 1911 encycliopedia, countless Victor Hugo articles and many military and political articles. Many of the stubs I have created have vbecome major articles. This all would have been impossible had Johnsmith's been immediateley there to remove any of my contributions. Johnsmith's keeps insisting that there isn't any current dispute but yet every time I make any edit heres there to revert it. In addition the vfd on the Frank Hogan article was begun after the dispute was suposedly over which is why I never had a chance to comment on it. If you need any more info I have a fairly complete summary here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:AMA_Requests_for_Assistance/Requests/December_2006/Gary123#Summary: Johnsmith's accuses me of being sneaky for saying that this dispute is still going on but for example I added a link to a wikipedia article about a wikiproject.

   * (cur) (last) 17:10, 13 December 2006 John Smith's (Talk | contribs) (link when there's actually something there)
   * (cur) (last) 14:19, 13 December 2006 Gary123 (Talk | contribs) (→Abridgement for print)

Now I'll concede on this particular point, maybe Johnsmith's was right to remove it BUT adding a link to a wikiproject is how the 1911 Encyclopedia project began because someone saw the link and created a whole 1911 encyclopedia project on wikisource as of now wikisource has put the entire 1911 encyclopedia brittanica online thanks to my contribution. Had Johnsmith's been there to jump on the link immediately it never would have happend. This all happpend less than a week ago, AFTER I requested an AMA. What really steams me is this pursuit isn't the result of a bad edit I made its the result of a dispute on a talk page. I've documented it all on the AMA page. --Gary123 16:22, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Gary, this is your problem. You spam the same message everywhere. You've got it into your head that you're the target of something. This can be seen that you're trying to use this method to resolve a dispute which is no longer on-going. There are no "vindictive campaigns". The only vindictive campaign is you continuing to slander me that I am "out to get you". John Smith's 10:32, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Also let's just back this up for a second. If I was running this "campaign" against you, why was it that you made edits prior to the filing of the request without me reverting or otherwise sabotaging them? It goes to show the only thing between us at the moment is this very silly AMA request. I'm not psychic - I had no way to know you were going to do this. So if I was trying to be nasty to you, why did I suddenly stop? John Smith's 10:53, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Oh, fair enough about the abridgement thing. But I didn't realise you'd filed the AMA request. After all it's not as if you tried talking to me, rather just continued on with your slander campaign calling wolf. John Smith's 15:40, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

"For the Frank Hogan one, I honestly had no idea that a position like he had could make him important. My fault for not checking, but in this country prosecution lawyers are not political appointments, so it's virtually impossible for them to become notable."

You basically concede in that sentence my whole point that your pursuing articles you admitedly know nothing about simply for the sake of retaliation. Your main focus on wikipedia has been East Asian affairs yet for some reason you had the knowledge to delete ana rticle on NYC politics and law, that I just happened to create. As for me "slandering" you, I've only laid out the facts which are your edits: they speak for themselves. The Abridgement article in addition prooves that any edit I make will be jumped on by you until this issue is resolved. You pretend that this issue is over and yet the only edit I've made you've reverted. The only reason you havent reverted more edits recently is that I havent made any out of fear that you'd revert them intantly. --Gary123 15:53, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

No, I did not do it out of retaliation. I did it because I thought it was an inappropriate entry. Lots of people put things up, which do not deserve a place here. The Frank Hogan article is not the only one I have listed for deletion. And as to the abridgement article, it proves nothing. If you put the wrong sort of links on pages, there is no reason not to remove them.
There is nothing to dealt with here, other than for you to drop this ridiculous chirade about you "living in fear". If you were living in fear you wouldn't have spammed all those talk pages with the same rubbish about there being a "campaign" against you, because you would have been too scared to do that in case I retaliated. The fact you did all that shows you're not telling the truth. John Smith's 16:29, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

How is it a charade when you ADMIT your going after my articles? Even you don't have the gall to suggest you have been coincidentally editing pages I've edited or created, nor coincidentally removing my edits? I've made very few edits since applying for AMA assitance and yet you've still been there to revert my edits. You have em on your watchlist, have the decency to admit it! You watch over the edits I make even though you've already been prooven wrong on multiple occasions. If you deny that then you'd have us believe that you coming across Frank Hogan was a coincidence. Clearly you have retailiated! I don't have a fear of challenging you, I have a fear of editing because you remove my edits immediately! Your actions speak louder than your words. --Gary123 16:52, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

"Oh, fair enough about the abridgement thing. But I didn't realise you'd filed the AMA request." This basically is the reason I had to file an AMA request. Again you ADMIT that you reverted my page because you didn't know I had filed an AMA request. SO its ok to bully me before but not after I've sought help? Your whole logic is faulty. You claim that there is no live dispute because you haven't reverted any of my edits recently. But the only reason you havent is because I haven't made any recently since its rather pointless if your going to instantly revert them. You want to be rewarded for being succesful in intimidation. This is a very LIVE dispute. I've basically had to abandon a user account that I've made hundreds of contributions since 2004 with just because of one user's vindictiveness. Need proof? I've made practically no contributions since this dispute started in October! Basically you can proove my whole case by answering one question which I asked you back in October: How did you happen to come across an article on Frank Hogan a NYC prosecutor you admittedly know nothing about? --Gary123 16:54, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

How did I know about the Hogan article? Easy, I checked your edit history. It's what I frequently do when I meet people that I suspect of being POV trolls, in case they're causing trouble elsewhere. Not that you were, but I came across the article that way.
By the way I removed your spam below. You've already copy-and-pasted the contents of your request above. If you keep copying it out you will just make it more difficult for Culverin to understand what's going on. And I suggest you stop going on and on - wait until he's read the comments so far. [edit] Adoptee Question

Hi Culverin,

Before I write anything else read my response to another Adopter here User_talk:Anthony.bradbury#Adoption_Questions, which you may find useful.

There is no right or wrong answer to your question - just general principles to be followed:

  1. Always try contacting you Adoptee giving plenty of time for a reply
  2. If you decide to end adoption due to inactivity then always explain to the user why and tell them they can always come back to you or try another adopter - i.e. be civil.

In practical terms I do not like to have inactive adoptees, to generally I end adoption explaining as above. You should see this not as your failure - but part of the system. You will likely find that 50% + of Adoptees never go on to be fully fledged long term Wikipedians - but that is the nature of the beast. Also another reason for deadopting inactive adoptees to try to make to Adoptee category make some sense of reality. I hope this answers your question - if not contact me again. Also it would be good if I could copy the Q and A to the experiences section of the Adopter's Area is that okay with you? Cheers Lethaniol 18:34, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:ADOPT

Hi there,

As a current Adopter with the Adopt-a-User program there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention.

A new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you may have found useful as an Adopter, as well as recount any experiences that you think may help others. If you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.

Also the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user, on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking.

Furthermore numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.

Finally - thanks for all your hard work, keep it up - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 13:48, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

I don't mind you replying on my talk page, but please refrain from leaving images. The problem I see with dyson Aliens being a separate page is people like me, who have an enormous watchlist, have a difficult time watching the content. [edit] RE:Hope

Esperanza had deletion consensus. When you clamor for it's restoration, you are claiming that there was something wrong with the deletion discussion. There was not. Everything was done by the books. We decided to delete, what's done is done. You are entitled to your opinion, but creating that userbox is not the way of doing things; by using it, you are telling me basically that you don't respect the consensus determined by dozens of editors. If you feel so strongly about it, I encourage you to begin a new DRV.

As for my change of heart, the old days were when I was ignorant and foolish. Now I understand policy and Wikipedia in general, and I've seen the error of it.

All the userbox does is create drama that we don't need. I'm sick of seeing Esperanza dragged up again and again. Let the sleeping dog lie. DoomsDay349 02:22, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hello

I recently read a very odd message on a discussion page.

It is [here] under "Wear it as a badge of honour"

I was wondering if you could do anything about this or tell someone who can. Brilliance 06:20, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for doing something about it. I came to you because I saw your name on a list of people who can help, and just randomly chose it. Anyways, thanks again. Brilliance 18:51, 16 January 2007 (UTC).

Thanks. I see you like Age of Empires 3. I also have this game and I enjoy playing it.

Yes, I used to play it online. I liked the French for normal games and the Dutch for no rush games. I also liked England for Deathmatch games. Brilliance 01:58, 17 January 2007 (UTC).
Hey, thanks for helping me out in this conflict. I'm glad that we have resolved it now.
Yes thank you, I do forget to indent sometimes. About the Response thing, I decided to organize my talk page like that, but now i see that it is just a hassle. I'll think about wiki adoption. Brilliance 22:58, 17 January 2007 (UTC).
PS: I don't play it much now, but i do play a game once a month or so.
Hey, thanks for helping me out in this conflict. I'm glad that we have resolved it now.

[edit] Baseless warning for vandalism and racist remarks

Thanks for the warning [[2]], but I oppose racism and do not make racist remarks. I consider your characterisation of my edits as "racist extreme POV " to be a personal attack and respectfully ask you to desist. Exactly which edits are you complaining about? And in what way do they constitute vandalism and racist remarks. Please be so kind as to substantiate your allegations or withdraw them. Abu ali 11:11, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Culverin, Abu ali has come to me requesting my input in regards to your final warning for racism. I see he has requested further clarification as to what the warning is in reference to specifically, and this seems only fair - especially given the serious nature of the allegation. Could you be so kind as to provide a diff for him/I please. Thanks  Glen  22:45, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
Culvenin, I was involved in discussions with the two users involved in this dispute from fairly early on. Please note that User:Abu ali's comment was not directed at User:Brilliance as you may have been led to believe. While I agree that the comment should not have been made in the first place, it was taken out of context and had its meaning twisted. The comment was directed at a recently blocked user with the intention of consoling them. At no point did Abu ali make a "call for suicide bombers" as was claimed.
Given that, I think the warning you left was too harsh. Could I suggest that the warning temlate be struck out, and that it be replaced with an appropriate hand-written warning? I'd like to propose the following:
''The comment you left in [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:PalestineRemembered&diff=95283802&oldid=94763365 this edit] is not acceptable behaviour on Wikipedia, as it is likely to incite conflict. Please remember that other editors will read comments like that on talk pages, and may be offended. ~~~~
I think that is a much fairer comment. Chovain(t|c) 23:48, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

I've left more comments on my talk page. Chovain(t|c) 19:04, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hi

Hi Culverin -- you sound reasonable to me. I just have to wonder, is a statement criticizing Zionists really that out of line to get this kind of attack against Abu Ali? If you'd told him not to make such statements on WP, I'd have agreed with you. And like I said, I can't criticize you for being offended, which it legitimately seems you were. In any case, isn't the escalation here your doing? I don't know Abu Ali, except that he's offered some kind words to me in disputes before, but he seems like a reasonable guy. Maybe if you retracted your accusation, he'd agree to avoid making political statements in the future. Or maybe not, and then you could challenge him on it next time, probably much more succesfully. I'm only so comfortable barging into this, but I'm simply hoping this kind of thing can actually be resolved, in the interest of good feelings on WP. Kind regards, Mackan79 16:38, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

I agree, and I said to him that it should probably be removed as going outside the spirit of editing on WP. In the context that he made the statement, though, I simply don't think it was that out of line; he was consolling a person who was blocked, not attacking (though yes, I understand it's still a very contentious thing to say). At the same time, as a reasonable person, can't you see that leaving extremely aggressive messages on someone's talkpage that they're endorsing terrorism, and telling them to stop their racist comments, etc., is a huge escalation of the incident, which also can't be tolerated on WP? Note, my response wasn't to escalate further and say something outrageous to Brilliance or you. My response was simply to point out why it's crazy to think Abu Ali should apologize, after being attacked in this way. The reason I took his side was because he was in an extremely difficult position, and I really didn't want to see that kind of message left on his talk page permanently. Nobody else here was really being threatened with punative measures. Anyway, I appreciate that it's all very difficult, but I also think WP should try very hard to accomodate people who may do something inappropriate, but could also be good editors on WP. Best, Mackan79 18:58, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More on Brilliance

Hello again. User:Brilliance seems to listen to you. Would you mind explaining to Brilliance why this is not really a constructive reaction to someone trying to help out? I am this close (insert image of me holding my index fingers near each other) to raising an RfC against Brilliance for their behaviour over the past few days, but suspect a few words from you might be able to fix everything up with less disturbance to everyone involved. [edit] Unspecified source for Image:SD4.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:SD4.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:28, 23 March 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 16:28, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
