Cultural nationalism

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cultural nationalism is opposed to ethnic nationalism in the sense that the nation is defined not by its ethnicity, nor merely by its institutions, but rather, by a shared (inherited) culture.

Cultural nationalism has been described as a variety of nationalism that is neither purely civic nor purely ethnic.[1] The nationalisms of Quebec and Flanders have been variously described as ethnic or as cultural.[2] However, cultural nationalism has also been described as a sort of nationalism with emphasis on culture and language, especially in a European context.[3] Hindutva and the Sweden Democrats are supporters of cultural nationalism.[4][5]
