Cults Academy is an Aberdeen City Council secondary school in Cults, Aberdeen, Scotland. It is renowned for its excellent exam results and was rated the 3rd best Scottish state school in 2005.[1] Founded in 1967, the academy has always played a key role in the community and the wider area, with a branch of the Dutch Rijnlands Lyceum International School based at the school for children of oil industry expats. The school has various sports teams and societies, along with a large music set-up and its own newspaper/magazine. It is the largest state school in Aberdeen (based on pupil numbers). The school is to be replaced with a new building on the site of the existing playing fields, with plans available on the school website and at local council locations.

The school teaches a variety of subjects, offering most at all levels of Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) school qualifications; Standard Grade, Intermediate 1 & 2, Higher and Advanced Higher and are very over-protective about their precious league tables.

Exam results generally are above-average, with the school's aforementioned high rating evidence of this. In the 2005-2006 session 21 Pupils gained "5As" however this number dropped to 16 in the 2006-2007 session. [2]

Approximately 1170 attend the school each year (one of the largest attendances in the Aberdeen area), between the ages of approximately 11 to 18. The majority have attended one of the five primary schools in the catchment area; Cults Primary School, Culter School, Lairhillock Primary, Milltimber Primary, and St. Joseph's Primary (a Roman Catholic faith school). Children from other areas attend after successful application by parents. In the sixth year section of the school, Prefects and Senior Prefects are appointed to help with the running of the school and also to work in co-operation with the Senior Management Team (SMT).

Pupils are split up into six different houses each with their own Guidance teacher who offers help, support and takes Social Education classes. The five houses are named after local areas.

As of the 2008/2009 session Blairs house will cease to exist and a new structure for SMT and guidance will be implemented so that Deputy Heads no longer are in charge of a year but a particular house as well as the Guidance teacher.
