Cuilapa, also known as Santa Rosa Cuilapa, is a town in Guatemala. It serves as the capital of the department of Santa Rosa and as the administrative seat for the surrounding municipality of Cuilapa.
One interesting fact is that Cuilapa marks the midpoint of the American Continent.
Unfortunately, the town recently appeared in the news when the four police officers being held in Cuilapa's El Boquerón maximum security prison for the murders of three Salvadoran deputies of the Central American Parliament were themselves killed on February 25, 2007. The murders remain unresolved.
