Cuatro Caminos (literally: Four Roads, the name of a major road intersection and metro station in Mexico City and Madrid) is the fifth album by Café Tacuba, released in 2003.
[edit] Track listing
- Cero y Uno (Zero and One) (refers to the binary numeral system, or is more likely a reference to how the singer feels, 0-1 refers in Mexican Spanish to feeling lousy, just as 2-3 refers to feeling "so-so")
- Eo (sometimes referred to as Eo (El sonidero), [Eo, the sound machine])
- Mediodía (Midday)
- ¿Qué Pasará? (What Will Happen?)
- Camino y Vereda (Road and Path)
- Eres (You Are)
- Soy o Estoy (I Am (existence) or I Am (place)
- Encantamiento Inútil (Useless Enchantment)
- Recuerdo Prestado (Borrowed Memory)
- Puntos Cardinales (Cardinal Directions)
- Desperté (I Woke Up)
- Tomar el Fresco (To Take Fresh Air)
- Hoy Es (Today Is)
- Hola Adiós (Hello Goodbye)
The album is marked by wordplay, as titles like "Hoy Es - Oyes" (You're Listening), "Soy o Estoy" and "Hola Adiós" (which could be separated to "Hola a Dios" which means "Hello to God") make clear. Rubén Albarrán, whose vocal talents are well-demonstrated on "¿Qué Pasará?", was credited on this album as "Élfego Buendía". This was the first Café Tacuba album to use live drummers instead of drum machines.
Produced by Gustavo Santaolalla, Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Weezer) and Andrew Weiss (Ween).
Cuatro Caminos was featured on several Top Albums of 2003 charts, including Rolling Stone, New York Times, Blender Magazine. It won in 2004 a Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album and two Latin Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Album and Best Rock Song for Eres
The song "Eo" appears in the soundtrack to soccer game FIFA Football 2004.
