Now, analysing that, you changed the meaning of the paragraph somewhat, removing two facts:

  1. that evolution is "supported by overwhelming scientific evidence"
  2. and that creationism is prevalent only "in some parts of the world"

This to me therefore looked like plain old creationist attempt to subvert the POV of the article (excuse me if reverting you seemed rude, but we've seen it all before and it does get a bit like a broken record). Flick through the page history to see what sort of nonsense is reverted.

However I will agree with you that "who perceive it to contradict literal interpretations of various religious texts" is not necessarily true: Intelligent design creationism in particular is not supposed to be based on Genesis (though it does have links to YECism). It does therefore create a bit of a strawman of creationism and I'll reword that bit accordingly. — Dunc| 12:15, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
