CSIC

The Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Spanish for Higher Council for Scientific Research is the largest public research organisation in Spain. Dependent of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science, the CSIC is multidisciplinary and carries out research in many science fields through its more than 100 centers around Spain.

Its origins are found in the Junta para la Ampliación de Estudios (1907-1939) born within the Institución Libre de Enseñanza and inspired in the Krausist philosophy.

According to the Law of Promotion and General Coordination of Scientific and Technical Research (Law 13/1996 of April 4) and its Regulation, the current objectives and functions of the CSIC are:
- The realization of scientific and technological research projects.
- To act as consultant for the Public Administration in scientific matters.
- Promotion of Science.
- Collaboration with the Autonomous Communities in their research activities.
- Collaboration with the universities in their research activities.
- Education of researchers and scientists.
- Collaboration with the National R&D Plans.
