Crystal River High School was built in Crystal River, Florida, in 1969. It is located on NE 8th Street in central Crystal River. It was the second of the three high schools located in Citrus County. The first enrollment count was 750 students. Now (as of 2008) there are approximately 1453 students, 76 faculty members, and 35 support staff.

The current principal is Patrick Simon. He took over in 2005. The faculty has been a constant block of new teachers since Simon began his second year of principal at the high school.

- One of the main goals of Crystal River High School since the arrival of Principal Patrick Simon is a raising of school spirit. Pep rallies using the spirit chest have been held to promote increased school spirit. Students are also rewarded for academic performance especially in the area of higher FCAT scores.
- Motto: Make footprints with your heart.
- Mascot: Pete the Pirate.
- School colors: Blue and gold.
- Clubs: Crystal River has approximately 28 clubs and activities (not including sports).
- Rivalry: Lecanto Panthers and Citrus Hurricanes.
- School store: Scallywags (Opened as of spring 2006).

- The school has many affiliations with different organizations to promote education. Central Florida Community College(CFCC) allows for students to participate in Dual Enrollment: a program that allows students, though still in high school, to get college credits. Some of the classes are currently offered on campus). These include ENC1101, ENC 1102, Biology, and Calculus.
- Other programs include the Advanced Placement courses which allow students to go through a course in preparation for the AP Test which, if passed, gives the student college credit for the course. The school offers after school tutoring and has a mentoring program with the community.

- Crystal River High School was originally located where the current middle school stands today.
- The school is in the planning phases of a major renovation(Dec. 2007).
