Crystal Palace Basketball
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Crystal Palace was a basketball team competing in the British Basketball League until 1998 when they merged with fellow London team, the London Towers. They played out of the Crystal Palace Sports Centre and were one of the forerunners of the league in the mid-1990s.
Crystal Palace trail blazed in the late 1970s and early 1980s, with their run of victories in the league and cup competitions. With stars such as Steve Stimpson, Steve Pilgrim and Alton Byrd, Crystal Palace were the team of the moment and did much to pioneer basketball in the UK. Sadly the club was subsumed into the London Towers, who themselves subsequently dropped out of the BBL.
