The James E. Cryan Memorial Tennis Tournament began in 1964, in Trenton, New Jersey, created by friends of James E. Cryan, all of which loved tennis. The tournament is now played in Mercer County Park in West Windsor Township, New Jersey. The total prize money given out in 2007 was $4,200, divided equally between men and women.
The tournament runs from the last Saturday in July through first Saturday in August every year. The 2008 tournament will be held July 25th through August 1st.
There are ten tournaments: Men's Open (singles and doubles), Men's B (singles and doubles), Women's Open (singles and doubles), Women's B (singles and doubles), and mixed doubles (A and B).
The 2007 tournament had approximately 310 participants, with many participants entering multiple events, therefore there were approximately 450 tournament entrants.
There is a sponsor’s day on the Saturday of the finals where local pros come out and introduce themselves and run drills on multiple courts, there are usually a few hundred people in attendance, approximately 125 participate in the clinic. There is a charge of a dollar per person, the proceeds going to charity.
The prize money for the winners of the open tournaments is $1,000 for singles, there is also money for the finalists. Winners and finalists in the men's and women's doubles also receive prize money.
The women's open finals and the men's open finals have ball kids (and possibly other events), they have had sponsors shirts and hats provided (approximately 12 outfits).
There are 400 T-shirts given out every year with the Cryan tournament logo on every shirt (the design changes every year). The trophies also have the Cryan tournament logo on them.
