"Cruel Summer", a song by British girl group Bananarama, was a U.K. #8 hit in 1983 and a U.S. Billboard Hot 100 #9 hit in 1984. "Cruel Summer" was covered by Swedish band Ace of Base and was a hit again in 1998. The single quietly entered records stores during the early summers months of 1998. It became the groups last major US chart success, reaching #10 and going gold.
