My wife has hanging on her office wall a croptop that she purchased from her high schools store in 1987 that just barely covers the bottom of the breasts; I remember clearly, and fondly, this being a very common summer style for females from about 1985 to 1989. The article doesn't seem to quite address this, and makes it out to be almost purely a male thing. i guess I should take a picture of the shirt and put it in the commons. I also need to re-watch the weird science movie again.Paganize 11:51, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Don't, because I personally know that there are men who wear these who are not homosexual. It's also used in hot weather because you cannot go into stores or restaurants shirtless.--Daniel Bingamon 12:34, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

I am the author of the article. Please feel free to update it with anything useful, but tangential additions like tri-shirts (triathletes have special half shirts???) are not pertinent.

Just saw your comment here. I'll paste here my edit summary, because I feel it probably still applies (then again maybe not now that I've seen the talk page): "Even if you are the "original author" that doesn't mean you own the article, perhaps read WP:OWN? Hope it helps, if I'm wrong here in my assumption let me know". You appear to have a lack of any knowledge about triathlons? I'm something of the opposite.... I do Ironman every year along with many other triathlons. Been doing this since before I was a teenager, I've got many of these types of tops myself. Mathmo Talk 13:36, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Mr. Mathmo:

Why do you feel this overwhelming need to add something unfounded to this article? I spent my own time researching this by interviewing people from the companies mentioned in the article, and people who engaged in athletics in the 80's. First off: your grammar and wording are completely flawed (e.g. you started the sentence with "Is common" but in English we say "It is common") and you stuck the sentence in a spot that has nothing to do with your topic.

If you are so intent on advertising these so-called Tri-shirts, why not be happy with your own article that you created about them and PLEASE just leave it out of my article. And don't lecture me about not owning the article. I may have donated this piece to the public by posting it here, but I would ask that you respect it by not adding strange tangential items to it.

Would appear that my suggestion to read WP:OWN was a good suggestion. As for the other points you raised, well they could have been dealt with differently than completely removing what I wrote. If you absolutely must include this arcane factoid in the article, why not create a new paragraph to mention it, and please make sure the grammar is perfect (remember this is an encyclopedia for which we're writing...if you're not a native speaker please have someone check it). Please also put it somewhere where it doesn't interrupt the flow.

I don't think your behaviour is really that appropriate seeing as the article is pure original research since it hasn't been referenced. Yes, Mathmo added something which was not sourced so there was no way to tell if it was appropriate or not. I'm pretty sure that these styles have been around for quite some time, I've seen them in old movies. I'm sure belly-revealing clothing has been around forever, but it is indeed difficult to find sources on these things.
