A plaque near the entrance states that the gallery was a gift of Margaret E. Crocker. The museum website (http://www.crockerartmuseum.org/about/history.htm) indicates that she presented the building, the grounds, and the collection "in trust for the public." Jim 21:57, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
