Croydon Arena is a proposed arena which is part of the Croydon Gateway re-generation scheme in the south London district of Croydon. The site is next to East Croydon station and close to the proposed Croydon Tower.
There are two proposed regeneration schemes. The one that incorporates the arena is backed by the London Borough of Croydon, but there is a rival proposal for the site. The matter was the subject of a public inquiry that took place from September to November 2007, and it is expected that the outcome will be announced early in 2008. [1] If it goes ahead, the venue will have a capacity of 12,500 and will stage events such as hockey and due to an agreement being reached with the British Paralympic Association for the arena to become the centre of the association's activities if it is built.
The arena is hoping to make Croydon the cultural centre of south London and the aim is to make it the destination for entertainment and the arts.
There are building on the resources already provided by the Croydon Clocktowers library, galleries and museum. Testing 1,2,3 offers young bands the chance of stardom and the annual Summer Festival draws people from across the south-east.
