The name Crowley may derive from the English or the Irish . The Irish Crowleys are more numerous and are know in Irish as "O'Cruadhlaoich", a Gaelic name meaning "hard hero" or "hardy warrior" which was anglicised to "Crowley" or "O'Crowley". The English "Crowley" means "wood of crows".
