Crossroad Bible Institute provides faith-based reentry education for prison inmates. Courses are on three levels, the highest being college level courses sponsored by The Center for Advanced Studies at Crossroad Bible Institute. Located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, lessons are corrected by trained Instructors and returned to the students with personal letters of encouragement and discipleship.
While serving all denominations, CBI is officially accredited by the Christian Reformed Church in North America, The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability and the American Corrections Association. Currently 40,000 inmates are completing lessons in all 50 states and in over 50 foreign countries. Distribution Centers are located in Canada, Australia and Colombia, South America and Nicaragua. The program is available in English and Spanish.
Scientific studies* indicate that recidivism rates plummet when inmates have received a thorough faith-based reentry education during incarceration. The Center for Advanced Studies also houses CBI's reentry program that connects inmates with reentry agencies in the area of their anticipated release to assist them in finding a job, securing housing and, if desired, locating a church. In addition, the Center provides continuing education for its 5,000 volunteers as well as leadership in the areas of criminal, restorative and social justice.
- Studies of recidivism rates have been conducted by Prison Fellowship, The University of Pennsylvania, New York University and the Louisiana Department of Corrections. All indicate a significant reduction in recidivism rates for inmates who completed faith-based reentry programs during incarceration.
