Pre-demo tape recordings, released or not, consist mainly of early 80's Boston crew songs or oddly late 80's Ska songs. Like many bands who were associated with powerviolence in its peak ('93) during the first wave, Crossed Out was a band that evolved from obscure "extreme hardcore" ensembles such as Confrontation (Scott Golia) and Pillsbury hardcore (Eric Wood). In 1991, Spazz bassist/vocalist/Slap-a-ham records dealer Chris Dodge asked the band to record a demo so that he could release a future recording. The '91 demo as it's known consisted of long hardcore-esque styles nowhere near their later sound but it was a start. Five month's after that recording in the fall of '91 their seven song self-titled 7 was released and consisted of a firing squad cover photo. The self-titled record marked their direction in the path of what powerviolence would be known for and the composition of the songs were no where near the style of the songs on the demo. The self-titled record contained long songs too but much more composed and had a legitimate recording quality due to the downtuning of the instruments and the blizzard-gasping style of the vocalist. In 1992, the band recorded a live radio show on KSPC, a recording to the Dropdead split 5, Slap-a-ham's enourmous SON OF BLLLEEEAAAUUURRRRGGHHH! compliation 7 released the same year as their sound crushing split 7 with Man is the Bastard. *The Dropdead split 5 was eventually released in the summer of '93 because it was delayed by Slap-a-ham and the two bands resorted to a collaborated release by three other record labels that volunteerd in support of both bands. By the year of '93, Crossed out along with Man is the Bastard, No Comment and Capitalist Casualties played Gilman St.'s 1st ever Powerviolence only show called the Fiesta Grande. Eric Wood, configurated bassist/vocalist of Man is the Bastard volunteerd to play bass for Crossed Out which would last until their break up. The summer that followed, DropDead toured the U.S with the release of their split 5, playing two shows for the first and only time with Crossed Out. An August 1993 show with Spazz, Los Crudos, and Dropdead titled 'Grindcore Night' on a flyer at Gilman St., jokingly pissed the vocalist before their set and briefly uttered a staple powerviolence term 'Fuck Grindcore' before they began their set. 'Fuck Grindcore' later became a bootleg 10 of their slef-titled record, MITB split, KSPC show, comps/???/unorganized material that was a Fan Club release rumored to have been released by an audience member of that show whose name was mentioned and hated by the memebrs of Crossed Out on the back of their official discography CD/LP in 2000 on Slap-a-ham. At the end of '93, Crossed Out was completely done with their original Bassist (Rich Hart) and depended on Eric Wood who was much too involved with his band MITB as well as living three hours north in the Los Angeles area making it too far of a commutefor Crossed Out to continue where they resided in Encinitas. By early '94 the band was done with and may not have played a show but of course contemplated on releasing a split with Rupture and talks of an actual 12 LP.
