Cross Lake First Nation

Cross Lake is a town in Manitoba, Canada. Its population is estimated between 5,000-7,000. The two main languages spoken in Cross Lake are Cree and English. In Cross Lake, there are four Councils,which are the Chief and Council, Women's Council, Youth Council and the Elder's Council. The Chief of Cross Lake is John Miswaggon. who never goes to the store and he proclaims that North Mart is taking all our peoples money... The Women's Chief is Betty Lou Halcrow. The Youth Chief is Charles Miller. The Elder's Chief is Daniel Ross. The Main Building is the Walter Richard Memorial Building.

The Cross Lake Education Authority runs two schools on the Cross Lake First Nation. Otter Nelson River School is a Sr. 1-4 Highschool and also an Elementary school (N-4). also known as ONR, it has approx. 90 - 100 staff and about 1100 students. Mikisew Middle School is a school with grades 5-8. There is also an off-reserve school, D.R. Hamilton which has grades Nursery to Gr.8. with approx. 100 students

The Community of Cross Lake has two Grocery Stores. Family Foods (Located across from Chicken Chef) Family Foods also serves as a conveinient Western Union outlet and also sell sporting goods. There is also the new Northmart operated by The Northwest Company. Northmart has a Pharmacy, Deli , KFC Express and Foodcourt. There is also a MTS and Lottery Outlet.

There are two Gas Stations that serve the community. Mistasineek Gas located in the C-B-Seek Area and Muskego's Gas Bar located on the other side of town in Sawmill. Both gas stations offer Tax Free Gas.
