From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hi, this is Crisco_1492. I'd like to thank you for taking time to read my profile, and wish you success with any articles you write in the future. If any reader is able to fulfill what I wish to do (to be listed in a "To Do List" later on) I would greatly appreciate it, as I have limited research resources to work with, especially in the areas which I have great interest in.
[edit] The Name
My screenname is of a direct reference to Christopher Columbus, whom I admire as an explorer, but there are also other symbolic meanings. The first part, Crisco is a derivation of not only first name of the (arguably) first European discoverer of America, but also my own. Another little reference is to the shortener, which symbolizes to me all of the food which I enjoy so much. The second portion, 1492, is a direct reference to the year Columbus first travelled to America.
[edit] A little about me
Me in a nutshell... help, help, I'm trapped in a nutshell! @:-P --------------->
[edit] The long version
I am a Canadian student, who is currently on an exchange program through Rotary International to Indonesia, and am planning on pursuing a career in teaching English as a Second Language in Indonesia in a couple years, after I've finished the exchange. I became a Wikipedian on June 20, 2005, and currently work on small wikipedia articles once a week, usually on Friday. I also joined Wiktionary on January 29, 2006. At the moment I make minor adjustments such as fixing typos and adding comments to the discussion pages of articles where I find things contratry to my understanding of Wiki- policy. I have yet to read all of the articles on policy, so due to this and my limited knowledge of the subject are, I do not fix the problems I see.
I graduated from J. L. Forster Secondary School (best in the west!), and met a lot of friends for life there. There I also began studying Islam, and have read part of the Koran.
I strongly believe that sports are to be participated in, and not watched. Where's the fun in watching golf? You have to play it to feel the rush!
I hope to see the world eventually, and visit friends I met online. Personally, I think that a world trip would open my eyes to how lucky I am to live in Canada. Some of my other hobbies include reading (especially Michael Crichton and Tom Clancy books), playing video games, chess, and bicycling.
I am a huge Nintendo fan, but here in Indonesia, everyone uses the PS2. As such, since I've arrived, I've managed to complete five games on my down time: Final Fantasy XII, Onimusha 3: Demon Siege, Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII-, Soulcalibur III, and Resident Evil: Dead Aim.
I'm a Final Fantasy and a Resident Evil addict. I have completed Final Fantasy VII, VIII, XII, Crystal Chronicles, Dirge of Cerberus, and Final Fantasy Tactics. As for Resident Evil, I have finished EVERY single game available for Gamecube, as well as Dead Aim.
In the time I don't dedicate to saving the world, writing an Wikipedia, or having fun with friends, I study Gamelan and traditional Javanese dance. I tend to watch a lot of movies in Studio 21 (a nice movie theatre) with my friends as well, and there are a couple of friends who join me every week to watch a movie, when they have time off of work. I am also currently reading a lot of classic novels, such as Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, as well as Shakespeare's MacBeth and Romeo and Juliet.
I hope to begin teaching in Indonesia hopefully in 2007 or 2008. However, my ultimate goal is to settle down with a wife and one or two kids, preferably well behaved... (with my genes, I doubt it ;p).
For pictures of my trip, and information about the Rotary Exchange Program, see [[1]] It focuses on the Windsor - Detroit area, since I am from there. If you go to the site, you'll need to explore a little to see the trip information.
[edit] Articles I want
There are two singers whom I wish to make an entry for. Unfortunately for me, their home pages are in Vietnamese, a language I cannot speak or read.
- Nhu Quynh, a popular Vietnamese singer.
- Cam Ly, another Vietnamese singer.
Also, there is a Taiwanese restaurant chain, Charmy Snow Ice, which is in 10 countries. I would like to find out a lot more information.
It would be nice to have an article of traditonal legends from various cultures, including external links and summaries of the legends. I understand that the big ones already have articles of their own, but there are a lots of legends to read about around the world. Maybe Tutsi, or Javanese, or Thai or something like that.
I have a little idea about another way to use the Wiki programming. I was thinking that since it is much easier to use than other web site editors, it could be used to create personal web pages. Just an idea though... it would be interesting to see in action.
[edit] In conclusion
Well... if you managed to get through to the bottom of this page without a complete a total brain meltdown, I applaud you. If you skipped through to the conclusion, shame on you! (Just kidding, I did the same thing with Frankenstein in Grade 11. Unless there are Cliff's Notes out there for every users endless rants and raves... Cliff, you listening? CLIFF!!!)
Asta luego.
