[edit] Plot summary
In this episode, Detectives Goren and Eames are investigating the shooting deaths of an investigative reporter and his fiancée. Why and who is responsible?
While investigating, Goren works his way from the driver of the vehicle, to the shooter who used the driver in the getaway, to the men who hired the shooter, up and up and up the ladder. When the detectives close in on the shooter, they discover dotted lines that connect to organized crime and possibly the governor's office.
Meanwhile, the detectives take heat from Captain Deakins when their investigation connects them to the power elite. But Goren and Eames focus on a key evidence that a bribe was paid at the high state office. An interesting part of this story comes near ending, which shows the detectives totally disgusted with A.D.A. Carver for his work ethics.

What's in a name
Interestingly, this episode revealed many resemblances to Geoffrey Chaucer's The Pardoner's Tale, which, like this episode, is a story with characters motivated by greed.
[edit] Quotes
Goren: I'm not arresting her.
Eames: Count me out, too.
Carver: Detectives...
Goren: We are supposed to be better than the people we're prosecuting!
Secretary: Here, let me highlight it for you...
Goren: No, that's okay, the search warrant doesn't actually stipulate hightlighting.
Phil: What'd I do?!
Goren: Got yourself arrested, Phil.
Eames: Declared a fugitive in 1997. I guess that qualifies as traveling.
Goren: Boo!! Made you look.
Goren: Eames, I gotta see a buddy about a '71 Malibu. Wanna come?
Eames: Sure. I love meeting your buddies.
Goren: That's not going along, Larry, that's stickin' it to ya!
Eames: Give it up, garbage boy!
Eames: 351, four-barrel. Who you trying to outrun?
Lewis: Whoa. I think I'm in love.
Greg: I should've shot you when I had the chance.
Goren: I've heard that.
Goren: I can get someone in so deep, even I couldn't find them.
