Cringle Moor is the second highest hill in the North York Moors, and the highest point west of the Clay Bank Top Pass. This pass separates it from Urra Moor, the highest hill, making it a Marilyn. The summit lies on the edge of an escarpment, providing fine views towards the north.

The hill is crossed by Alfred Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk, which also passes over the neighbouring tops of Cold Moor, Carlton Moor, Live Moor and Hasty Bank — a section of the walk which Wainwright describes as 'one of the finest'. It is also crossed by the Lyke Wake Walk and Cleveland Way.
