The Northern Territory of Australia has the highest level of crime per capita of any state or territory in Australia. Darwin has per capita the highest crime rate of any Australian city, while Alice Springs has the second highest crime rate of any Australian city (and the highest murder rate). In spite of this, the Northern Territory has no known organised crime.

[edit] Notable criminals from the Northern Territory
In the Northern Territory, most serious crime is alleged to be conducted by motorcycle gangs. The Darwin division of the Hells Angels is believed to be responsible for most of the semi-organised crime in the Northern Territory. Some long-term Darwin residents believe police are bribed by Hell's Angels or receive death threats and are scared off from investigating certain crimes committed. However, there is no solid proof that this is happening and is just word of mouth.[citation needed].
