Crime in Brisbane

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crime in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, Australia, is lower than some other Australian capital citiessuch as Sydney.[citation needed]

The Roma Street train station and transit center is a hotspot for daytime drug deals, mainly dealing in amphetamines or heroin.[citation needed]

The Fortitude Valley Mall is also a centre for drug dealers to sell heroin.[citation needed] Night clubs in Fortitude are widely known for the ease of acquiring and use of hallucinogenic drugs such as Ecstacy and LSD.[citation needed]

Amphetamine manufacture and dealings are on the increase with many back yard "labs" operating from the fringes of outer suburbs.[citation needed]

It is also strongly believed[who?] that major Australian Biker gangs have had heavy involvements within theamphetamine manufacturing and illegal firearms trade in Brisbane.[citation needed]

Various wide stretched Streets have a been a major hotspot for street racing through-out the city, especially through-out the outer areas.[citation needed] Inner areas may include West End, Pinkemba and various other riverside stretches.[citation needed] In Australia, Brisbane is considered the street racing capital, or more commonly known as Hoon capital.[citation needed]

Metropolitan Brisbane is also well known for an increasing number of car chases, especially on the Large Motorways and Highways, e.g. Pacific Motorway.[citation needed]

A number of numerous well known gangs including the Triads, MS-13, etc, have been considered to commit a number of crimes through-out the outer areas including Logan, Mt Gravatt as well as various regions to the north.[citation needed] However these only relate to drug trafficking, committed robberies, and vandalism.[citation needed]

Clinton Rose, half-brother of Schapelle Corby, a convicted drug smuggler, has had drug possession charges and spent time in jail for a range of offences.[citation needed] He is currently serving a 15 month sentence in Queensland for drug possession, breaking and entering and fraud.[citation needed] This is his second time in prison on charges involving drug possession.[citation needed]

Michael Czugaj of the Bali Nine[clarify: sentence not complete] Scott Rush was arrested on 17 April 2005 at Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali, Indonesia, with heroin weighing 1.3 kg taped to his legs under his clothing.

Some of the Bali Nine were Brisbane Residents.[citation needed]

Lloyd Clark Fletcher was convicted of murder and rape. His most known crime was the sexual assault and murder of 15-year-old Janet Phillips in Wynnum, a suburb south-east of Brisbane, on 19 July 1987.

Brisbane was considered[who?] to cater for one of the longest and fastest police chases in the southern hemisphere, when a 19-year-old drove his car at speeds of up to 190 km/h in Mt Gravatt and Salisbury, south of Brisbane, for a time of approximately 30-35 minutes.[citation needed] The teen was arrested soon after and is now imprisoned.[citation needed]
