Cricket Writers' Club Young Cricketer of the Year

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Young Cricketer of the Year is an annual award voted by the Cricket Writers' Club for the best young cricket player in England and Wales, and has been awarded since 1950. Former recipients include Fred Trueman, Geoffrey Boycott, Ian Botham and David Gower.

The award is currently restricted to players qualified to represent England, and under the age of 23 on 1 May. Andrew Symonds was qualified for England at the time of his award, but later chose to represent Australia at international level.[1]

Only eight of the recipients of the award have not played Test cricket[2], including the most recent winner Adil Rashid who it is reasonable to assume will be in contention for Test selection in the future. However, one of those eight, Paul Franks, has played one-day international cricket.
