The Cricket World Cup is one of the most viewed sporting events in the world, being televised in over 200 countries to over 2.2 billion television viewers.[1][2][3][4][5] Television rights, mainly for the 2011 and 2015 World Cup, were sold for over US$1.1 billion,[6] and sponsorship rights were sold for a further US$500 million.[7] The 2003 Cricket World Cup matches were attended by 626,845 people,[8] while the 2007 Cricket World Cup sold more than 570,000 tickets so far and recorded the highest ticketing revenue for a Cricket World Cup.[9] The recent World Cups have transformed into larger media events than the previous ones, where One-Day International Cricket was still in its developing stages.

The 2003 Cricket World Cup matches were attended by 626,845 people, while in 2007 it sold more that 672,000.[10]
