[edit] External Links Removed
Hi Peripitus,
I was wondering why the link to our website on various pages has been removed.
The link is: Cromer Lifeboat Station - Official Website and is directed to our Official station website of the RNLI lifeboat station in Cromer.
Unfortunately I added them again before realising I should have contacted you here first.
I have only added the link to our station website where an item relating to us directly has been placed in the text on those pages.
i.e. Lifeboats, Tamar Class, Henry Blogg etc.
An explanation would be appreciated.
Regards
Crew11uk
Hi Crew11uk,
- I removed these links as I saw you adding the same external link to multiple pages. This is usually correctly regarded as spaming the encyclopedia and is often used by people trying to generate page traffic, advertise their site or improve search engine rankings. If you are going to link your site it is not usually helpful to link to the main page but rather the page that has information pertinent to the article. So for Tamar class lifeboat a much better link than to your mainpage is to http://www.cromerlifeboats.org.uk/07/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=220&Itemid=31. It may help if you read through the opening sections of wikipedia's policy on external links ?
- I'm not saying that you were spamming the site but when I see 10 edits adding the same link with no history behind it looks suspiciously like advertising happenning. You'd be much better adding content to the articles then referencing it back to relevant content on your website that backs up the added text. Happy editing - Peripitus (Talk) 11:21, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
