[edit] Village vs hamlet

Point taken on the parish church, but Crewe Green really does look to be very small on the map, especially compared with the much-expanded Crewe satellite villages of Haslington, Shavington, Willaston &c. Can we compromise on 'small village'? Espresso Addict 05:18, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

Yes, small village is all right. I know it well, having been born and having lived in Haslington and having recently moved back so that I often visit. I can also add to the expansion you have done: there used to be a Tollgate there (a Tollgate Farm still exists), and there is a milestone in the village (which really needs some kind of preservation work) The old school bulding is interesting since it has a stone carved inset in the side which copies one in Crewe Hall. I have photos of these, but am having some problem downloading them onto my PC at the ,kmoment. I hope to sort this out asap. Crewe Gold Course if also within the parish, though it can be accessed by car only via Haslington (many memories from my childhood of playing down there beside the small stream that goes on to Queen's Park in Crewe. I'll add those details just as soon as I can get appropriate verification and citations for them (not the childhood playing, obviously.) There's some stuff in Pevsner's book about Cheshire architecture, and I'll add bits from other places.  DDStretch  (talk) 08:47, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
You obviously know the area far better than I do! I've been to Crewe Hall (and have some not-so-great photos which I might upload here if I can improve their colour balance), but I know the Crewe villages to the south west much better from my geographing trips there.
I suspect for some details like the golf course we could get away with just referencing the OS map in some fashion. I wonder if it would be worth including the relevant OS sheets in the infobox? I've recently borrowed the Cheshire Pevsner from the library in researching Churches Mansion, but haven't yet got around to adding any of the wealth of details it has.
