Crest of a Wave

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crest of a Wave is the signature tune for all Scout Gang Shows throughout the world and is usually performed at the end of a performance.

Crest Of A Wave was written by Ralph Reader for use in the various Gang Shows and has various hand actions associated with it.

[edit] Lyrics

We'll do the hailing
We'll do the hailing

Many Gang Shows choose only to sing the chorus, but there are also two verses:

(First Verse)
All Hands aboard boys, all hands aboard boys
The ship is calling for more
We're getting ready, now for the steady
Pull away from the home shore.
We're off to find adventure anyhow,
Because we know that now...

(Chorus)
We're riding along on a crest of a wave
And the sun is in the sky
All our eyes on the distant horizon
look out for passers-by
We'll do the hailing
When all the ships are round us sailing
We're riding along on the crest of a wave
And the world is ours

(Second Verse)
Sailing the seas is great when the breezes
Seem just to blow you along
And tho' before we land there'll be stormy
Weather we'll face it with song
High tho' the billows, we go crashing thro'
With our adventure crew

(Chorus)
We're riding along on a crest of a wave
And the sun is in the sky
All our eyes on the distant horizon
look out for passers-by
We'll do the hailing
When all the ships are round us sailing
We're riding along on the crest of a wave
And the world is ours

If just the first verse is sung, the chorus can be repeated, but sometimes changed to the original version. For example, slower or in a more staccato style. The second time also often includes a very slow ending. If both verses are sung, the first chorus is often sung stoccato style. Actions can be added to the second chorus. There are a many variations on the actions for the song, with each show having a particular method, although not necessarily unique.
