Creeveroe

Creeveroe is a townland in Northern Ireland, lying approximately three and a half miles west of the city of Armagh, in County Armagh, . The townland derives its name from Red Branch, which was the name of two of the three royal houses of the King of Ulster, Conchobar mac Nessa, at his capital Emain Macha (Navan Fort, near Armagh). The name is thought by some to derive from the practice of cutting off their enemy's heads and displaying them on the branches of trees.[citation needed] The name "red branch" was later applied to the Red Branch Knights, described by historians an Irish equivalent to the English Knights of the Round Table.
Today the townland is inhabited by a wide variety of people, significantly farmers, as the townland is rich in fields.
The townland neighbours the townland of Ballyrea, which is famous for Ballyrea Orange Hall, built in 1893 by William John Leeman and his brothers from Creeveroe Farm; and the highly successful and well known flute band, Ballyrea Boyne Defenders. The Australian poet Victor James William Patrick Daley was born at Creeveroe and used it as his pen name.
