Creative capitalism

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Creative Capitalism is an art and music publishing project founded by Peter Quinn, Gillian Stewart Quinn, Todd Meyers, Richard Baxstrom, Gerald Ross, Todd Evans, and others. Creative Capitalism was formed to produce art and music projects outside orthodox gallery and music industry modes of production and distribution. The first project was a 192 page full color perfect bound book/cdrom of contributed art and music called Friends and Friends of Friends. The project was an experiment in social networking as curatorial method. It is filled with imagery and music from contributors from Baltimore, New York, the U.S. at large, as well as artists from international locations. The second project titled Notebook, was a response to request for the immediate notation and doodle put down on paper in black and white. Notebook is a response to the immediacy of the thinking process on paper and video. Then Creative Capitalism released Lo MOda, Ponytail, History at Our Disposal, Tall Grass, and others.

Our selections, decision-making, editorial is not merely based on aesthetic alignment but rather a belief system. We are interested in propagating art and music throughout and helping artists get their voice heard. We are interested in the social and political effect of artist output.

Creative Capitalism is committed to the creation, production, and dissemination of art and music. Art and music controlled by artists and musicians. The term was then appropriated by Bill Gates in 2008. (see below)

Creative Capitalism is a term coined by American entrepreneur and Microsoft chairman Bill Gates at the 2008 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. The ideology calls for a new form of capitalism that works both to generate profits and solve the world’s inequities, using market forces to better address the needs of the poor. According to Gates, 'disparity between the rich and the poor are greater today than ever'. Gates' idea of creative capitalism combines the "two great focuses of human nature -- self-interest and caring for others," he stated. By keeping business acumen in mind, the world's corporations can discover new, innovative ways to solve major problems for one billion of the world's poorest people, who don't get enough food or don't have drinking water or reliable access to medication, which the rest of us take for granted, he said.
