[edit] Summary

Español: Supuesta fotografía de Caballo Loco

Disputed photograph of Crazy Horse (1877, this is a cropped version from the original tintype)

We strongly beleive that no photo was taken of our uitko

It was widely believed that no photos were taken of Crazy Horse until this one was published in the book With Crook at the Rosebud (1956). However, its authenticity is questioned for several reasons, most importantly because Crazy Horse opposed being photographed. An 2003 article in the Billings Gazette has a history of the portrait and summarizes the arguments in the authenticity debate.

The tintype is currently displayed at the Custer Battle Museum in Montana.
