Crave (play)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crave is the fourth play by British playwright Sarah Kane. It was first performed in 1998 by the theatre company Paines Plough at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh. The play was initially presented under the pseudonym Marie Kelvedon. It features four characters (or possibly four elements of the human mind), each of whom is only identified by a single letter. Character A is an abuser. M represents the maternal figure (recently played by Debbie Harry on a US tour), possibly the mother of character C, a timid, tortured child. B is an addict. The 4 characters interact through a series of poetic stories, monologues and dialogues. There are few stage directions, barely any punctuation and so physical, visual aspects and mise en scene are open for interpretation.

The lyrics for the song An Echo A Stain by Björk from her Album Vespertine, are all taken from Crave.
