Craspedochiton rubiginosus rubiginosus is a subspecies of chiton in the family Acanthochitonidae.

This subspecies is endemic to New Zealand including the Chatham Islands.

This chiton is found at depths of between 9 and 80 m.

[edit] Description

The shell is broadly oval and low-arched, not carinated. Sculpture is rather coarse, pebbled with rounded granules, the largest at the outer edges of the valves. The dorsal area of the median valves is strongly and irregularly grooved.

Coloration is rose, sometimes variegated in darker rose. The jugum is purplish, occasionally orange. The girdle is pale yellowish-brown.

Length is up to 18 mm, and width up to 10 mm.
