Crash Landing was a posthumous album by Jimi Hendrix released in March 1975 by Reprise Records. The album was in response to the poor sales of Soundtrack Recordings from the Film 'Jimi Hendrix', which peaked at number 37 in the U.K. chart.[1] Crash Landing was an ambitious project led by Alan Douglas for Reprise Records to "create" new Jimi Hendrix songs to satisfy fans. Douglas created the new material by reviewing hundreds of hours of old tapes from the vaults of Reprise Records. Douglas pulled unfinished songs from the tapes and completed them using studio musicians to overdub Hendrix' original tapes. For his effort on this project, Douglas incorrectly claimed co-writer credit on five of the eight songs on Crash Landing, much to the distaste of fans and critics. The album received a lot of publicity prior to its release and fans were eager to hear the new Hendrix material. The album was the first Hendrix album to hit the Top 10 since The Cry of Love peaking at number 5 on Billboard's album chart and number 35 on the U.K. chart.
