Crammed Discs

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Crammed Discs is a Belgian independent record label specializing in world music, pop, and electronica. Based in Brussels, Belgium, Crammed was founded in 1980 by Marc Hollander of Aksak Maboul and has since released over 400 albums (including for example the Congolese band Konono n°1's Congotronics 2005 ep). As well as Crammed Discs, sub-labels include CramWorld for contemporary and archival world music releases, Made to Measure for soundtracks and specially commissioned works, and SSR for dance music.

In 1998, Crammed created Ziriguiboom Records, in association with Brazilian A&R/Producer Béco Dranoff, a subsidiary dedicated to "new Brazilian sounds". Ziriguiboom is now widely recognized as one of the major sources of new Brazilian music; for instance, they released Bebel Gilberto's debut album Tanto Tempo, which sold one million units worldwide. Ziriguiboom has also signed and released albums by such artists as: Celso Fonseca, Cibelle, Zuco 103, Trio Mocotó, DJ Dolores, Apollo Nove and the late Suba (Mitar Subotic).
