Craigsville, Minnesota

Craigsville was a logging village in section 36 of T. 63N, R 26W in Koochiching County, Minnesota.

Craigsville was platted in 1924 by James Reid. It was named for an unknown logging foreman named Craig. Craigsville was frequented by as many as 5000 lumberjacks seasonally, and had a post office from 1915 until 1952. In addition to numerous hotels and saloons, Craigsville also had a station of the Minneapolis and Rainy River Railway. [1]
One of the photos used in the opening montage for the television series Cheers was taken in Craigville in the 1920s.
