Craig Russell (born February 4, 1974) is a former professional football player from South Shields, England.
Russell was a centre forward who spent much of his career at Sunderland in the 1990s however he gradually fell out of favour as Sunderland became a more successful team being replaced by Kevin Phillips and Niall Quinn and left the club for Manchester City in 1997.
After leaving Sunderland, Russell has had spells at Manchester City, Tranmere Rovers (loan), Port Vale (loan), Darlington (loan), Oxford United (loan), St. Johnstone (loan), St. Johnstone, Carlisle United, and Darlington. Russell has now signed for South Shields FC in the Northern League.
In 2005 he retired from playing professional football however remains in the game as a coach, currently being employed as a fitness coach at Newcastle United.
