CRASH-B Sprints
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The CRASH-B Sprints is the world championship for indoor rowing raced over 2,000 m on Concept2 indoor rowers. It is held every February in Boston, Massachusetts, recently at Boston University's Agganis Arena. Previous venues have included the Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center and Harvard's Newell Boathouse. The race began in 1980 by several former US Olympic rowers. The CRASH-B sprint are officially sponsored by Concept 2. CRASH-B initially stood for Charles River All Star Has-Beens. This is the name the group of originators gave to themselves, and are still the official governing body of indoor rowing. The racing format has evolved over the history of the event. Now, all athletes race over 2000 meters only once. Previously, there were heats and finals and other distances (2500m, 5 and 6 miles) were raced.
Interesting Facts:
- At the Agganis arena, the people that walk around and spray the ground are actually spraying water to discharge the static electricity that builds up on the rubber floor and prevent it from interfering with the ergometer computer network.
