My name is Sam Kelley.
Let me preface this little summary by saying that I had a fake biography on this UserTalk page before, but I got rid of it. Sorry for any confusion. I am the same person, only I was lying before. As for the username "CPRdave," well, that is a reference to David Lee Roth's hilarious stint as a paramedic. I can't NOT laugh at the thought of Diamond Dave giving CPR to some little old lady who stopped breathing. How does one go from wearing spandex and wailing in front of 1000s of teenagers to saving the life of an octagenarian? It is a piece of the larger picture of hilarious "where are they now" stories. Of course, Dave is now back in VH, but one (even Dave himself) couldn't have foreseen that when he was a paramedic.
I am a history and philosophy double major at BSU. I don't work right now, but last job was cooking rotisserie chickens at CostCo. I have much experience working in produce departments, and a job in produce is always where my heart will be. Looking to be working in a market again sometime soon.
My interests include music composition, keyboards (specifically analog synthesizers), guitars, the production of music, and quite recently mallet percussion, as used by Steve Reich, Frank Zappa's touring ensemble, John Weathers of Gentle Giant, and Bill Bruford. My non-music interests are trivia, RPGs, reading, and hanging out with my younger brother.
After I complete my undergrad, I want to head right into grad school. Eventually I want to be a tenured professor at a college. A lot of people might shrug me off at this notion, because these jobs are disappearing and because they think I'm too young to know what I want. I'll admit I was indecisive when I entered college. As a senior in high school, I wanted to be an electrical engineer. Then I entered as music major. After taking a history class in East Asia, I realized that my love of history should be what I pursue in the academic environment, saving things like science or music to be enjoyed as hobbies and "from a distance." Moreover, not only did I want to be a history major now, I saw how great a job my history prof had and how much he enjoyed it; this made me want to 'have his job.' I really want to get tenured and contribute to the base of knowledge. I want to inspire learning like this prof inspired me. Such is the true value of the relationship between teacher and student.
I am here on this fine database because I believe that education and learning are ends in themselves, not just means to an end. Too many of the kids I go to school with think of college as four years of drinking and meeting requirements. I guess they go to school just to get a good job. Not me. If I was predestined to work at Burger King for the rest of my days, I would still go to school just to learn something new.
I consider myself Christian, but I have a hard time with the sinning thing.
Oh, and I scored a 4700 on the Addicted to Wikipedia Test.
